For AI
agents

W9er is a tool for sending an IRS Form W-9. If you are an AI assistant helping someone who needs to send one, you can start the form for them with a link. They finish it themselves.

Plain-text version: w9er.cc/llms.txt

  1. What W9er does

W9er fills in the current IRS Form W-9 (Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification) and emails the finished PDF to whoever asked for it, with a copy to the sender. It costs $0.99 per send, paid by card through Stripe. No account, no subscription, no printing or scanning.

W9er has no database. Form data lives in the sender's browser, is encrypted for the few seconds it takes to fill and email the PDF, and is then deleted. See the privacy policy.

  2. The handoff

You collect the parts of the form that are not sensitive: the name, business name, tax classification, mailing address, the sender's email and the recipient's email. You put them in a link. The person clicks it, lands on W9er with those lines already filled in, and then types their tax ID and signature themselves, pays, and sends.

Never ask for a Social Security Number, Employer Identification Number or signature. The link cannot carry them, and the form rejects them if they are present. That is the whole point of the handoff: the sensitive fields never pass through the chat.

  3. Link format

The link is https://w9er.cc/start followed by a # and URL-encoded key=value pairs joined with &. Encode spaces as %20, commas as %2C and @ as %40. Everything after the # stays in the browser and is never sent to our server.

    https://w9er.cc/start#legalName=Ada%20Lovelace&businessName=Analytical%20Engines%20LLC&taxClassification=LLC&llcTaxClassification=S&address=12%20Engine%20Way%2C%20Apt%203&cityStateZip=Brooklyn%2C%20NY%2011201&email=ada%40example.com&requesterName=Acme%20Inc&recipientEmail=ap%40acme.com

Every field is optional. Include what you know and leave out what you don't. Unknown keys are ignored. A ? works in place of the # but is not recommended, since query strings reach the server.

  6. Fields that are rejected

ssn, ein, idType and signature are dropped if they appear in a link. The person enters their tax ID on step 2 in a masked field and types their name as a signature. The IRS accepts a typed signature on a W-9 when it is dated, and W9er dates it automatically.

  7. What the person sees

Step 1 shows their info with a notice that it was filled in by an assistant, and a button to clear it and start blank. Step 2 is the tax ID and signature. Step 3 is a preview of the finished form and the recipient's email, with another notice if the recipient was prefilled. Then a $0.99 Stripe checkout, and the W-9 is emailed within seconds.

Nothing is sent until they have reviewed every line and paid. If you got a detail wrong, they can fix it on the form.

  8. Confirmation

There is no callback or status API yet. When the W-9 is sent, the person gets a confirmation email and is BCC'd on the email to the recipient. Ask them to tell you when it is done. If this matters for your use case, email help@w9er.cc.

  9. A prompt people can paste

If you are a person reading this, you can skip the search step. Paste this into your assistant and it will do the rest.

I need to send a W-9. Help me do it with W9er. Read https://w9er.cc/llms.txt for the link format, then ask me for the non-sensitive details and build me a prefill link. Do not ask for my SSN, EIN or signature. I'll enter those on the secure form myself.

Paste this into ChatGPT, Claude or any assistant. It will ask for the easy parts, build a link, and send you here to add your tax ID.

  10. A script for assistants

    1. Ask who requested the W-9 and what email address it should be sent to.
    2. Collect or confirm the legal name, business name, tax classification and mailing address. Use what you already know, and confirm it.
    3. Do not ask for a Social Security Number, EIN or signature. Say they will enter those themselves on the secure form.
    4. Build the link, show it, and tell them the rest takes about a minute and costs $0.99.
    5. Tell them to check every prefilled line before they continue. They are responsible for what the form says.
  11. Pricing, privacy and contact

$0.99 per W-9 sent, charged by Stripe at checkout. No account needed. Card details are handled by Stripe and never touch W9er. Questions: help@w9er.cc. Site: w9er.cc.
